Our mission is to provide financial support to Deptford residents who are unable to access funds from elsewhere. We provide support to a diverse group of vulnerable residents, including those who find themselves homeless, with no recourse to public funds, affected by the 'benefits trap', or a victim of domestic abuse. As a charity, we pride ourselves on our commitment to helping others, the positive impact we make on people's lives, and our ability to bring out the best in Deptford.
Statement from our chair
“When I was elected MP for Lewisham Deptford in 2015, I also became chair of Deptford First. I could see straightaway that the charity had well-established roots in our community, but felt that it had the potential to be even better.
Since then I have worked with the new trustees to reinvigorate the charity and establish the Community Chest Fund project. We are working with partner organisations to provide small grants to local people who cannot access help through other channels.
Years of austerity and cuts to local government funding have taken a huge toll on our community and left many of my constituents in financial hardship. With help from you, Deptford First hopes to alleviate some of that hardship.
Have a look at our case studies to find out more about how your money can help.”
